Online English Lessons
Hi there,
I’m George
Born and raised in London, I'm very passionate and committed about teaching English.
As a lover of language learning and for the last few years, I've been living 'La Dolce Vita' in Rome.
I teach English to children, teenagers and adults, from 7 years to 70+ years of various nationalities.

About me and about our lessons.
My name is George Mackenzie-Lowe. I was born and raised in London, and have always immersed myself in its vast cultural opportunities. I have been teaching English as a Foreign Language for 4 and half years now and I can truly say I have found my passion: developing and delivering tailor-made lessons that are uniquely matched to the needs of each individual student.
My story:
In my teenage years I became an avid reader of both fiction and non-fiction. By 18 I was spending a huge amount of time in libraries reading a variety of books. This not only sparked my love of the English language, it also planted the idea of becoming an English teacher.
Around that time, I tried teaching myself French but failed miserably, c'est la vie! Thankfully my attempt at learning Italian was far more successful, daje! I put my Italian success down to switching learning techniques and glad I did as I am now totally fluent in Italian. I am a qualified CELTA teacher living in Rome. I teach part-time at a leading English school in Rome and the rest of the time teach online, both of which I thoroughly enjoy.
The good news is that failing in French and struggling at the beginning with Italian has helped me to appreciate and empathise with the struggles that many students may find when grappling with a new language. I am a very patient teacher and have developed a range of teaching methods that I adapt to each individual student; to ultimately help them to achieve their full potential.

My Teaching - What I offer:
The key to long term success is a well-focused plan:
In-Lesson: A weekly online Speaking Practice regime
At home: Creating an English Lifestyle (immersing yourself with daily listening/reading of English, this will accelerate your journey to fluency).
For Children and Teenagers:
I provide a fun and engaging English learning experience. The key to holding their attention is to keep the topics relevant to their world. After achieving decent fluency, I dedicate a section of the lesson to their interests. For example, I discuss Python coding with one child and Art and Architectural history with another child. I keep in mind their current needs but also their potential future career requirements. I give lots of continual encouragement and praise which builds their confidence and desire to progress towards fluency.

In the free introductory session, I suggest an online call between 10-20 minutes, to introduce myself and to ascertain the child’s level of English and interests.

For Adults:
I cover:
General English, English Requirements for your Specific Work, Business English, Grammar Boost, Accent Reduction, Interview Practice and Test Preparation.

I typically find a combination of the above works well, and the activities for each one will alter and develop as we follow the long term plan.

Lessons are Tailor-Made:
For example, with my Upper Intermediate / Advanced students I create a program to cover every aspect of his or her job. I have a mature student who owns an architecture firm, she requires specific terminology in order to convey business with an American client. I achieve this by using real-world documents/pdfs from her work
You will have a Long Term Plan which we will review every 3 months. This will be our learning path.
In the Free Introductory Session, I suggest an online call between 15-45 minutes, so I can get to know you, hear your spoken English, understand your requirements and time commitments.
Together we will design your:
Long Term Plan + Discuss the Lesson Structure and Activities .

Education
2018
CELTA - Teaching English as a Foreign Language
This was my first formal introduction to the traditional teaching methods used when teaching English as a Foreign Language. A very intense course where I gained a solid foundation from which to start my career.

Since then and through my own experience of language learning and teaching, I am continually researching better, more efficient approaches to improve the learner’s experience.
2017
Master's Degree in Library & Information Science
This master's degree lead to a job as a researcher in a top 10 City of London Law Firm. As fascinating and immensely rewarding that this role was, I decided to follow my desire to teach English. My time at the Law Firm also gave me valuable insights into the specific requirements for those learning English for a corporate environment.
